Meet Jordan

Jordan's first yoga class was in her home town of Winnipeg, Canada at the age of 16. Intrigued by the idea of the physical body impacting the mental state, she continued her yoga practice and started to incorporate elements of meditation.

She became a certified yoga teacher in 2020, and has taught locally on the Mornington Peninsula and online. She has since specialised in Yin Yoga (though she still enjoys a sweaty Vinyasa practice), and loves to incorporate a range of styles of movement in her classes.

Jordan has a specific interest in physical recovery, mental wellness, and mind-body connection. There is a strong element of Mindfulness Meditation in her teaching.

A Mount Eliza local, Jordan loves the slower pace of the Mornington Peninsula and loves to explore the area with her husband, 2 energetic young boys, and dog.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a slow paced style of yoga, with postures that are held for longer periods of time. "Shapes" are held for between 45 seconds and 6 minutes to allow the body time to relax and benefit from the posture. The gentle nature of this practice makes it ideal for everyone, from first-timers to experienced yogis. The practice of yin is deeply nourishing and restorative and it is suitable for almost any body type.

The shapes in Yin Yoga are designed to tap into our inner Yin energy, which is dark, mysterious, healing, restorative and imaginative. While yang styles of yoga (Vinyasa, Bikram) focus primarily on muscles, Yin focuses on the connective tissues of the body - our bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and fascia. These are not as easily manipulated as muscle, which is why we go slowly and hold poses for longer. An easy way to relate this concept is braces on the teeth. If teeth are moved too quickly, it damages the mouth, but longer periods of intentional pressure can change the layout of the teeth.

While stretching passively and embodying the essence of receptivity, the nervous system switches into a rest and digest state and the practitioner is able to slip into a deep state of relaxation.

This yoga is not a workout. This is about winding down and giving the brain and body time to fully relax.
